01 -
In a large bowl, combine ground turkey with chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined, avoiding overworking the meat.
02 -
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties approximately 1cm thick. Create a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent bulging during cooking.
03 -
Place formed patties on a plate and refrigerate for 30 minutes to help them firm up and hold their shape during cooking.
04 -
Preheat grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 5-7 minutes per side until they reach an internal temperature of 74°C (165°F) and are no longer pink in the center.
05 -
While patties cook, combine mayonnaise, lime juice, chopped cilantro, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Stir until well integrated.
06 -
Place burger buns cut-side down on the grill or in a skillet over medium heat for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden brown.
07 -
Spread southwest sauce on the bottom bun, then layer with cooked turkey patty, avocado slices, tomato, lettuce, and onion. Cap with the top bun and serve immediately.
